The MomStar Manifesto

Every woman is a MomStar in her own way. No need to be any less fabulous, any less amazing, any less over-the-top happy than anyone else.

Whatever her innermost dreams and desires, a MomStar isn’t afraid to go for it. She picks up the soccer snacks on the way to meet a friend for a quick five-mile run (gotta make it fun!), then dashes home for a quick shower and to glam up before hitting the stage (or the art gallery, or the dance floor, or just date night with her honey)! She doesn’t believe people who say you have to choose between motherhood and all the other things she’s interested in. She can have it all!

Song: Change the World

I believe there are no wrong decisions, just different outcomes.
In my world, decisions are neither right nor wrong, they just lead me to different opportunities, different roads. This frees me to take chances and risks that I wouldn’t otherwise take if I thought there was only one right way to do things.

Song: Take You Down

I believe that I can teach my children to follow their dreams by following my own.
For many years, I thought I should put my dreams on the shelf and only focus on what my children want to do and be. However, I realized that doing that could lead to me harbor resentments against my children for the chances I never took. It would also teach them that marriage and adulthood mark the end of dreams, when it actually can be where they begin. It has been shown that children learn most from watching their parents' behavior. Remember "Do what I say, not what I do?" Now you can show them what to do! It’s important to show children that you can be a good mother and still prioritize and take care of yourself. Most importantly, it would be hypocritical for me to tell my kids to follow their dreams if I’m not following mine.

Song: Believe in Yourself

I believe that there is a God, and it’s not me. I believe that God doesn’t give me more than I can handle. I handle what I can and I give the rest over to that which is greater than me.
As a powerful woman, it’s tempting to try to control the outcome of things, but life reminds me daily that there is One who has all power, and it isn’t me. I don’t have to control everything; things are going to be okay, with or without my input. The world will continue to function, the Earth will continue to revolve, the sun will rise and set, and I don’t have to feel like I’m responsible for any of it. I can just do my best and let the rest of it go.

Song: I Sing For You

I believe that when things don’t go according to my plan, it’s because God’s plan is better.
Even though I don’t have to control the outcome of things, that doesn’t mean that I don’t try. A friend refers to me as having a “spreadsheet for every occasion.” I do plan, I enjoy planning, but when things don’t go according to my plan, I don’t freak out. Nine times out of ten, if things don’t go my way, they end up turning out better than I could ever have imagined because God's plan was better.

Song: I’ll Allow It
